Meals With Less Meat for Renal Diet

by KNI

Table of Contents

Opposite of those with CKD stage 5 on dialysis, patients with CKD stages 1-4 may benefit from reducing daily protein intake which may help slow the progression of CKD. This is a very informative handout that provides practical ideas on how to reduce the amount of protein often found in common meals. Some of the meals discussed include:

    • Stir Fry
    • Kabobs
    • Soups/Salads
    • Tacos/Burritos
    • Pasta
    • and more!

Common trends throughout each menu item include encouraging the patient to get out of their comfort zone with new twists on common dishes, and bulking up the fruit and veggie content. It is also important for non-dialysis CKD patients to be mindful of sodium intakes, therefore, throughout the handout you will see several reminders of ways to cut the salt.

Lastly, this handout includes 4 pages of recipes to help put the suggested meal alterations to practice.
